Environmental Responsibility

Respect for the earth's living systems is at the core of every decision we make, and our progressive environmental stance distinguishes us as an industry leader. While meeting or exceeding all government regulations, we conduct our own extensive research, identifying ecological concerns and developing safer solutions whenever possible. Being an international supplier, we think about every corner of the world with every step we take, our goal being to reduce the environmental impact of our products by engineering chemical synergies.

Our all-encompassing approach to development scrutinizes every product for mammalian toxicity, ecotoxins and decomposition. We will always employ the best available environmental practices, and we will continue to advise our customers about their most responsible choices to make their own operations 'green'. We provide additives that improve air quality by reducing emissions and increasing fuel-efficiencies, and we offer solutions that protect the earth's natural waterways by diminishing the impact of industrial waste.

We're proud members of the Building Owners and Managers Association, and have helped many of our customers with BOMA Canada's 'Go Green' certification. Our company has a proactive Health and Safety program and Emergency Response Plan in place, not just for our own benefit, but for our clients' use as well.

Greenscore

Everyone knows that "Green" means environmentally friendly but what is the actual definition of a green product? Since green for one person might be totally different from what somebody else perceives as such, IPAC Chemicals Ltd. has developed the Greenscore; a formalized way of applying a metric to the term green. 


IPAC Research has come up with a systematic way to evaluate the green content of the IPAC and Power Chemicals product line. A product's Greenscore is evaluated by giving the product a rating between 1 and 10: 10 being very environmentally friendly and 1 being very polluting and hazardous.
   
The evolution of the IPAC Greenscore is simple and transparent. Every product is evaluated by six categories using common industry standards: 
  • Mammal toxicity & Carcinogenicity: Measured by conducting studies on mice, rats and rabbits.
  • Environmental Toxicity: Measured by conducting studies on fish, crustaceans and algae.
  • Degradability: Measured as biodegradability (OECD 301) for products that are not made up of the most common minerals of earth's crust.
  • Regulations: Include TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) as well as WHMIS regulations.
  • Dosage: A low dosage product will be greener than a high dosage product (more actives, less water transported, etc)
All of these categories are well defined, recognized and provide fair and objective metrics to calculate the Greenscore of a product.
Toxic chemicals are typically less green; for example Ethylene Glycol (IPAC IEG 100 Greenscore = 3.6) has a Greenscore that is 2 to 3 points lower than Propylene Glycol (IPAC IPG 100 Greenscore = 6.0).
IPAC LWT 668, a closed loop treatment containing Molybdenum (a heavy metal) has a Greenscore of 6.4 due to toxicity and regulation of the element. Comparably IPAC LWT G 698, an all organic closed loop treatment, has a Greenscore of 9.7.
There are no carcinogenic materials in any of our products.
The IPAC and POWER product range contains products with Greenscores ranging from 3 up to 10.
